Activity 3: Bye bye see you again Hope to see you again
Material: Flash card with du dey du dey du(heart shape), other pattern with only crotchet and quaver
Description
I introduced myself and told them the rules in music class. The first rule is they should quiet themselves when I do the movement of zipping up my mouth; however, they can make noise when I do the movement of zipping down my mouth. Second rule is they are not allowed to drink water or go to toilet during the lesson. They should drink their water and go to toilet before the lesson is started. We sing the morning song and subsequently we sing “rain, rain”. After that we sing solfege with the Curwen handsigns and learn the units, crotchet and quavers, by using rhythm syllable. I use heart shape to represent a beat. The lesson is ended after the reading of rhythm syllables.
Reflection
The children were not able to sing out the first song fluently as my instructions were not clear enough. The children could not understand what they should do.(just looking at me innocently)Also because I was rushing to start the "Good morning” song. Besides, the song has question and answer sections. Therefore, the students do not know when is their turn to sing (answer me while I sing the “question”). They felt a bit confused. This song is difficult for 6 years old children to learn?
Reminder
1. Speak slowly until the children know my instruction.
2. I need to explain and describe everything very detail because they never learn such knowledge before.
3. Give right instruction as the children’s mind set is not easily changed.
